Foreign Worker Recruitment Program
Client Responsibilities
Citizenship and Immigration Canada outlines a number of requirements that are the responsibility of the employer. Adherence is absolutely necessary to be allowed to recruit foreign workers.
Health Care Coverage - Employers must provide medical coverage until the worker is eligible for provincial health insurance coverage
Housing – Employers must make available adequate furnished housing for foreign workers. Housing cannot cost more than 30% of the workers monthly wages and must provide acceptable and reasonable living conditions.
Travel – The employer is responsible to pay for full transportation costs to and from the foreign worker’s home country.
Treatment of Workers – Employers are required to treat all workers in compliance with the Labour Standards Act of their governing province and the Human Rights Act of Canada.
Wages – Employers must comply with wage levels that are accepted by Service Canada. In most cases, this means employers must pay foreign workers at least the same hourly wage they are paying Canadian workers for the same job. However, as in the case of workers chosen using an Expedited Labour Market Opinion, wage levels are pre-set by Services Canada and employer adherence is mandatory.
